Having just cruised all my blogs I usually read and seeing no new posts I was disappointed. So, thought I, I better update mine as it is almost a week since I myself have posted.
So my week in a not too exciting nutshell:
Monday: 24 hours of call, 16 hours of work, tired Heidi
Tuesday: 24 hours of call, only 12 hours of work, Heidi getting numb! Tim had class and had dinner on the stove for me when I came home, he is the best.
Wednesday: 8 hours of work, Home and to bed by 7pm! Tim in class till 9:30 pm.
Thursday: 8 hours of work, managed to have the energy to stop by Mom's on the way home.
Learned that I have a quick tongue and need to not be so honest all the time. Hold my thoughts and be careful about what I say. I had always thought honesty was the best answer, sometimes being quiet is the best and then that can bite you in the buns too. Sometimes I am dammed if I do, and dammed if I don't. Life is complicated. I really do the best I can and never mean to hurt anyone.
At Mom's did the final inspection on the glass of the lamp and we are ready to "spot solder" the glass to we can really solder and start the final steps! The spot soldering keeps the pieces from shifting and falling off while the lamp is tilted to be flat. We are so close to ready. Tim needs to drill a hole in the dome so we can mount it on the nifty Tim lamp leveler that he built for us to use when we solder. The lamp needs to be level so the solder won't run....you'll see in photos, once it gets to that point. Had a lovely dinner with Mom and scooted home to bed. Tim went down to the beach after school tonight as he wants to do a spring cleaning in the Dove Knoll house. I love a man that loves to clean! He is the best. He is busy with school too.
Friday: worked 7 hours, zipped home to finish some wash, and rode to Rehoboth Beach with Kate for the weekend. This is car week in Ocean City (oh joy), and Karen, Garry, Drew and assorted crew are in OC. Kate came to attend the birthday dinner on Saturday night. She stayed in Rehoboth in the calm of Dove Knoll.
Saturday: Tim made us a wonderful breakfast. Kate and I did some major damage shopping, she shopped, I looked. Had a nice day. Kate went to Embers in OC, I took a nap!
Sunday: Quiche for breakfast by Tim today! More shopping in Lowes, they have the best garden center in Lewes. Kate left early to be home in time for the season Closure of Lost. Tim and I puttered, I planted a new catmint (very pretty perennial with purple flowers and smells like mint, but does not take over), some morning glories and sunflowers seeds under the new trellis. We left for home by 3pm so I could watch my 60 minutes and see Lost too.
And that brings me around to today, Monday. A crazy day at work, we all arrived to 10 add ons, soon to be 12. Wonderful staff, we all got most of them done by 3pm.
Once again home to dinner by Tim. Yummo, sausage and sour kraut!
Hope everyone else has had a productive week. Know you are loved. I sure do.

Moving right along, after a tumble
Thursday Mom had quite the tumble in the shower. She is OK, managed to go to the genealogy library for the morning and then took herself to Kaiser for a look see. They said she was fine and would be stiff. Well stiff seems to be the understatement of the week.
She is OK, but scared and delicate. Nothing broken and her back hurts like the dikens and a bruise that is quite impressive under her right arm. Kate spent the night Friday and stayed for book club and then they went to a few yard sales.
I stopped in today and she was moving slow. We went downstairs for a bit o glass cutting and did quite well. She hung in there and I got all my little squares cut for the first panel. See below.
This is how it looked before we started.

Here is panel 1 almost all done. Only 3 more to go! Then we get to foil, solder, patina, and assemble lamp bases! That is all!
Stay tuned!

I think I need a lighter border on the bottom. Only 7 little rectangles! :)
I was just thrilled not to get paged to go to work again today. Ten hours yesterday was quite enough.

Rain Rain Rain
I think we should start gathering animals in twos!
We have had 2 inches of rain which would=20 inches of snow! SHEW! And we are expecting 2-3 more inches of rain today. The wind is 50 MPH! Literally time to hold on to your hat!
So what has been going on in my life?
Mom has started cutting glass for our Tiffany lamp project. She is such a trooper. She is doing a great job, now time for me to do the "easy" square ones on the top of the lamp. The "easy" cuts are my responsibility. I better get busy too. Maybe next weekend, we will be home as Tim will be studying for his final the next week. I'll try to get some photos so you can see what we are up to.
Tim is fine. He has had an interview, called back for a second one with the same company, so we are on pins and needles waiting for a call. But if they don't call by the 28th of March he will register for 4 classes and move forward with school, and keep looking for a job. This will all work out the way it is supposed to.
Not much else.

back to school.....oh work
And none the worse for wear.
Seems like I was never gone. My replacement was SO glad to see me!
Had a few coughs, but nothing too bad.
Watched the Bachelor tonight. Interesting twist...why on earth did he keep Vienna?
oh well.
it was 60 degrees today! funny weather! And we might get snow this weekend!
My Vikings lost. I am so sad for Brett Favre. And now I owe Tim $40.00, easy come, easy go!

Life, Blogging and comments
So, I have become one of those people who do not blog, but read others blogs and get sad when there is not a new blog daily from everyone. So, I better get my act together and blog more often. Here is the latest in my life.
Life is fine here in Silver Spring. No prying little fingers in the kitchen to distract me from my blog! Last night I made a batch of chicken soup for my husband who has a cold. He says it is healing him.
Tonight is the retirement party for my Dr. Gray. I've worked with him for 20 years, and will miss him tons. I am jealous for him and his retirement. Only 20 more years for me! Oh joy! I am truly blessed to have been able to work with such a man of great stature.
My "lights only" tree is still up, with one ornament only-all 4 of us have a little bird ornament this year. Actually pretty funny about the 4 of us. Between us we have all options covered. Mom: tree, ornaments, no lights, Holly lights, ornaments, no tree, Me: tree, lights (one ornament after Christmas!) and the best one this year, Kate: Tree, ornaments and lights! Silly I know, but fun!
We have not seen temps above 32 in 3 weeks. It is wicked cold here, and with the wind, the wind chill gets us to single digits. Tonight we are expecting more snow 1-3 inches. Oh joy. I am on call this weekend and really do not want to deal with snow on call.
Tim is in class again. Only 14 more classes for him to get he BS in IT. Five more and he will have an AA. Yea!
Mom and I will be back in class on Tuesday for our stained glass lamp shade....watch out Tiffany lamps!

The last day of September!
Where does the time go? I will be in Vancouver in one week. waa hooo! I am so excited, and have so much to do. Five Kestner women on the move. Look out United. Wonder how much stuff I'll manage to stuff in my suitcase to scatter to the family. Love to do that. Hope they like it and don't think I am nutso!
I can hardly wait to see everyone and have a person to person visit. It seems everyone is always happy when I call. But nothing beats a person to person chat.......after a crazy day with a bizillion kiddlebugs zooming around, all tucked in bed and sleeping.
Today was a day spent solely in front of a computer at work! How knew surgery would involve a computer. Well not all day I did do a very sad case on a lovely patient who ignored her breast cancer a bit too long. She is on a big river called denial. I have not seen such bad cancer in a long time........probably back to West Virginia, which is getting to be quite a while ago. Where does to the time go?
Karen took my Buick to her body shop on Monday. She put the car through the shop to help me get 3 scratches fixed on the lift gate to the Enclave. She is a wiz with cars and was VERY sweet to help me rid my car of 2 minor and one delinquent key scratch. It was done today and oh to be 23 again and love to drive as much as she does. She zipped to Sibley (from Gaithersburg, 25 miles north) to do the car trade after work......as I was still there when she was done. Don't get me wrong. I love to drive. Ask my sister Holly. I drove her 3117 miles to Chelan Washington last October. What a fun trip.....more on that in another post when I figure out how to put photos in here! Anyway my car is beyond spiffy, new paint, all buffed up AND she got them to detail the inside. BONUS. I am a happy girl.
Work was blurr, I looked up and it was 1730......time to call Tim. We had a "romantic" dinner in the cafeteria and then Tim and I stopped by Mom's to help her with the apartment rental. She is so mad about the whole event she cannot even think or talk about it without tearing up. I don't blame her. Kim Brown has some very bad karma to make up for messing with an 86 year old lady! But we will get the apartment to code and she can have her bad juju and we will be happy and Kim will still be a miserable person scared of her own shadow and have bad Karma to make up for.
The moon is getting full, it is a cool fall night. Fall is a wonderful time. My garden even looked good in the moon light tonight. Now to find the time to mulch! Where does the time go?

Work Heidi Work Heidi Work Work Work
A saying my youngest niece said about her Dad as he went off to his night job, having been at work all day. She looked out the window as he drove away and proclaimed: "Work Daddy work Daddy, work work work!". It seemed to have stuck in my mind, and the whole family I think.
I seem to feel that way lately. Although I had an unexpected 3 day weekend this past weekend and got so much done in my yard and office I still feel like all I do is work. But then I don't have much else to do! Don't get me wrong. I love my life, my husband, my family. But I can't seem to "get" into anything. Perhaps I am "in" to too many things!
I knit, cross stitch, crochet, do photography, love to scrapbook (though I think the day of the digital on line booking is here), love to garden, can put together a mean dinner, with dessert. I just feel like I am not getting anything done.
Funny, my 86 year old Mom told me the same thing the other day...and I told her that was her job at 86 to not do anything, yet that is what seems to be bothering me most, but I am not 86!
On Saturday my best friend Pat came over and we worked in the yard for 6 hours and got so much done. I am so happy. We pulled 2 huge new dawn Roses that had taken over the front garden bed and just were not easy to attach to the house. Roses seemed like such a good idea, but unless they are on a fence or a trellis, they are not. Tim and Pat planted an ever green by the front door, Pat weeded the life out of a bed by the steps. We planted yellow daffodils and red tulips. My Dad loved red tulips. I hope they don't make me cry in the spring.....
I love to plant bulbs, it is my little hope that life will go on and spring will come again! Don't get me wrong, I love love love the fall. But it is always followed by winter and the gloom of cold dark mornings to work and even colder and dark nights home.
Perhaps my work rut it is the loss of my favorite plastic surgeon in the whole world. My Tom Sanzaro dropped dead on Sept 10, 2009 at 58 young years old. He has left a huge hole in my heart, the OR, his practice and most important a huge hole his wife and children just cannot seem to get a grip on. None of us can. I keep expecting him to pop around the corner with his endearing, "Ho Ho Ho".
Perhaps it is that work is slow, I have been having to furlough folks for an hour here, an afternoon there, a day there. It is not easy and makes my heart heavy. But I cannot have folks sitting around doing nothing. The hospital is struggling, we were asked this morning to cut 70K from my little group of 7. That is 10K each. I do not know where that would come from except salary. And that makes me woozy just to think about.
So that is it in a nutshell. My thoughts for the day.
